I’d like a job in a large retail organisation but every time I look on websites they’re all specific jobs such as accountant and marketing manager. Do jobs exist for inexperienced people who want to learn, or are these sorts of jobs just for graduates?

How to sell your abilities in a job interview?

MG asked:
I have been having a hard time selling my abilities to job interviewers. My problem is this, I am from a culture where “tooting your own horn” is frowned upon. Hence, I don’t know what exactly how to sell myself or abilities. It is obvious in my resume I have the skills required for the job, plus I show a personable personality, but when I don’t get the call I am left in oblivion. I don’t know what others expect me to say or not during the interview. I usually research the company but many times I find that this does not tell me anything about the department I am interviewing for, the particular job, or the culture of the company. I talk about my abilities and past experience, plus I answer all their questions. How do you sell yourself in job interviews?

I have no luck in getting a professional engineering job at the moment. So I am trying to get a casual job which will be beneficial for my value in professional career. Are there any examples of casual, “no-experience-required” jobs which are useful for gaining value?

Hi,
Hi,
I am a freshman at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and major in air traffic control. I am worried that if i screw up at my job in the future, I will have no way to get another job. So I am thinking to minor in Aviation Safety and maybe meterology too. I am concernced about whether a minor in Aviation Safety can get me a job at FAA if I really screw up as an air traffic controller. Thanks a lot!

I have two children ages 21 and 27 who have never had to work before due to having received money from an accident settlement a few years ago. They suddenly find themselves unable to get hired for even entry level positions, they just want the basic $8 an hour unskilled labor job nothing fancy but without the work references that most young people get in their teens and early twenties they are having no luck getting hired anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions? What do they write on the job applications under previous employment? You cannot really write none or leave it blank. What kinds of places should they be applying at that will hire people without a work history?

I’m 18 and I need to start college. I would like a decent paying job working mostly by myself in an office setting at a cubicle. I would like LESS paper work and most of the job having to do with computers/working with them. I live in Bellingham, WA. So any specific businesses, job titles, or course info is what I am looking for. So what are some job titles? Or if you know any businesses in Bellingham (or farther north). Yeah anything helps. Thanks.

Can an unstable job history prevent someone from getting a better job?

I haven’t held a job for more then a year since 2002. I have voluntarily left the jobs for various reasons, such as the job having no growth/advancement potential, more responsibility then I can handle, not having enough responsibility (hence becoming bored at work), bad pay, bad hours (I’ve either had a great hourly wage but with part-time hours or vice versa), and I have been fired 3 times. Twice for not being able to keep up with the basic, minimum reqirements of the job (telemarketing surveys and serving)and once for a no call/no show.
